WELL WE TRIED

We found the chicken processor, and we waited til dark and put all the chickens into two boxes.

I was to take them early in the morning before work. As I dozed off, I realized that they were packed too tight in boxes in my car. Although the windows were open I knew that they would not make it through the night.

I told my daughter and she went out with me to check them. I was right. 2 were already dead and one almost. Remember this is my chicken hero daughter. After we took them out and released them, she sat with one that was still barely alive on her lap for about 1/2 hour. And when I made her lay it down she was crying.

To me we lived and learned. So when the 18 wheeler packed full of chickens is driving down the road the wind blowing through the cages may be a blessing.

Also, although I love meat, maybe I don't have to eat so much. I don't like the killing part but it looks like I will have to do this on my own. Maybe one chicken at a time. Until they are all gone. Then I will have to really think about what I will do next time. I know I will need a truck and more cages. But do I really want to do that?

Oh, NO!!!

I'm so sorry. I know they were destined for death anyhow, but I also know it was never your intention for them to suffer for nothing.

Have you got a wire cage or two? That's how we transport them, papers underneath.
