New chicks make everyone smile. I wish you all pullets. :)

12 eggs went in our 'bater, 10 hatched, 2 died immediately, 2 died later, and 3 were taken by hawks. I think we ended up with 2 pullets and a cockerel. Good think Tractor Supply Company sold some pullets this year. We picked up a 1/2 dozen, so we're pretty close to a dozen hens and one rooster, which was my goal.

We were just trying to decide yesterday if we were going to butcher the new cockerel. I hate butchering, but I suppose we better learn to get over it.

I much prefer looking at pictures of fuzzy chickies and smiling daughters. LOL

You know having another rooster around if his blood line is good is not all bad. It will improve your number of fertile eggs. Yep butchering isn't my favorite past time either. I found a chicken processing plant close by. I will see how much they charge and see if it is worth it.
