THE MEAT ORDER IS IN

JUST PLACED AN ORDER WITH CACKLEHATCHERY FOR 10 CORNISH CROSS, 2 BOURBON RED TURKEYS AND 5 BROWN LEGORN PULLETS.

THE PULLETS WILL GO IN WITH THE EGG LAYERS TO "FILL IN" AS THE EGG LAYERS GROW OLDER. I HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY THOUGH WITH HOW THEY ARE PRODUCING. AURACANAS DON'T LIKE THE HEAT BUT STILL PRODUCE. THE DOMINECKER (HOW DAD SAYS IT) LAYS A HUGE BROWN EGG EVERY DAY.

BROWN LEGORNS ARE KNOWN TO HOLD UP TO HEAT WELL.

THE BOURBON RED TURKEYS ARE A SMALLISH TURKEY. I WILL HARVET THEM AROUND 14 POUNDS OR THANKSGIVING...WHICH EVER COMES FIRST.

THE CORNISH CROSSES WILL BE HARVESTED AT 6 WEEKS MAX. THEY WILL HOWEVER BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE TURKEY PEN AND RUN AROUND CHASING BUGS. THEY WILL STAY WITH THE TURKEYS THOUGH BECAUSE THEIR FOOD NEEDS ARE THE SAME...HIGH PROTEIN.

HERE IS THE PLAN...I WILL GET A HALF A METAL DRUM AND SOME HEAVY REBAR FOR THE TOP. I WILL BUILD A FIRE IN THE DRUM AND PLACE A METAL TRASH CAN ON THE TOP TO HEAT WATER ON HARVEST DAY TO DUNK THE CHICKENS IN. THIS WILL ALSO BE BIG ENOUGH TO DO THE TURKEYS ALSO. I WILL USE A SMALLER TRASH CAN NOT THE HUGE ONES.

I KNOW I CAN DO THIS ON MY OWN.

The trick will be to get the water to the right temperature and hold it. Good thing you have more practice with campfires than I do.

If we were neighbors, I'd be over to help!
